FEBRUARY 2024 PHYSICAL VEGETATION CONTROL AND CHEMICAL APPLICATION EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:

This is a request for companies based within Cullinan Diamond Mine’s Host communities interested in participating in the Petra Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) Programme. This is an opportunity for local businesses interested in the opportunity for Physical vegetation control and chemical application at Cullinan Diamond Mine. We therefore request that interested local contractors express their interest by completing this form and submitting their information. Please note that companies shortlisted following this Expression of interest will be invited to submit formal proposals on a competitive basis.

SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of work consists of implementing long-lasting vegetation control through the chemical application of herbicide to prevent the re-growth of weeds and invader plants 2 meters on each side of the perimeter fence at Cullinan Diamond Mine Premises.

Specifications of the vegetation control:

• Chemical applications by means of a spray or applying with a paintbrush.
• Chemical use for vegetation control must be legally supported by the MSDS lists.
• Only approved organic chemical pesticides may be used and are to be applied strictly following the Manufacturer's specifications.
• Note: The company must have the knowledge, skills, and references of vegetation control and chemical application. Registered with a valid registration number at the Department of Agriculture – and experienced workforce registered to apply herbicide/pesticide, Agriseta NQF level 4 with the Department of Agriculture, Act 36 of 1947.
• The contractor will use selective application techniques that reduce pesticide/herbicide use such as treatment, band treatment, and treating alternatives rows/block vegetation low volume applications.
• The contractor shall remove fallen over trees/ branches within 24 hours from the perimeter fences. These shall be cut into manageable pieces and deposited off at the designated disposal site. Trees that constitute a hazard, due to broken branches, leaning over dangerously, or damaging utilities and Company property, shall be removed by the contractor as directed by the Security Manager.
• Vegetation cleared by hand is to be cut as close as possible to the ground (<150mm). Higher stumps may be retained if required. Felling of trees at stump height shall be by axe or saw, without sharp protrusions. Stumps remaining are to be swabbed with Roundup Bioactive at the recommended dose immediately after cutting to reduce the potential for regrowth.
• Vegetation control to be done continuously.
• All sections of the fence must be inspected frequently to ensure that vegetation, rubbish, or any other overgrown vegetation like trees and shrubs are well clear of the fence line.
• Continuously the security department responsible person must be kept up to date regarding actions taken and maintenance performed.

Herbicide application:

The use of herbicides shall be in compliance with the terms of The Fertilisers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act, 1947 (Act 36 of 1947). In terms of the above Act, only a registered pest control operator may apply herbicides on a commercial basis. All application of herbicides will be carried out under the supervision of a registered pest control operator.
